I like the periodic menu update. Food is always great. Service is consistently wonderful. Ambiance is great. Reservations recommended but sitting at the bar is always great too. The bartenders are fabulous. Always our go to for date nights

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have a coworker who recommended it, and we decided to make the drive down from the Harrisburg area. We were greeted warmly at the bar and served drinks quickly. We started with a dozen Blue Point oysters, which are very reasonably priced ($2.50 each) and were absolutely delicious. They do have $1 buck-a-shuck Tuesdays, which are typically Delaware Bay oysters which are also fantastic! We also had a very good crab soup and calamari, both of which were amazing. The calamari does have tentacles so if you're a tentacle lover then you have to try these! We have also been there twice for buck-a-shuck Tuesdays and everything is always delicious and service at the bar is fast, friendly, and professional. We are looking forward to trying other menu items. Great spot to drive to on the bike and have some good eats!

It was the weekend before Halloween and they had a Halloween pasta that was delicious! It was a vodka sauce over sautéed shrimp and squid in and pumpkin pasta. The portion was generous, so I didn't finish the entire serving. Then I had a crème brûlée topped with blueberries, strawberries and a chocolate wafer stick. No complaints about the service. Diane was amazing. She joked with the crew of 15 ppl we had and was on cue with drinks and our dining needs. Right down to accommodating my friend's mom who is 91 years old. The atmosphere was warm with a casual dressy vibe. The place was large but cozy. Inviting. It was a wonderful dining experience and If look to go back there again if I am in the York PA area. Kudos to The First Post!

Once again we found ourselves hungry and wondering what to do for dinner. We slept in today so hadn't had brekkies or lunch. Being a very lazy day we didn't want to go far so my friend recommended First Post. When we got there I was charmed by the building. It is in a historic building in Hallam Township. There is ample handicap parking along the restaurant but the rest of us have to schlep down a hill & over a dale to park. We were seated in a sunny room with a view of said parking lot. It was a little warm but nice. We both ordered soup to start. My friend had the cream of crab and I stuck with French Onion. After yesterday's bland soup I was hoping for a redemption here. Boy they did NOT let me down. It was heavenly. So good that I was very full after finishing! My friend enjoyed the crab but was a little disappointed that there wasn't a strong seasoning, they just topped the bowl with Old Bay, didn't seem to cook the soup with it. Still, our next up was the chicken gruyere cheese and mushrooms and caramelized onions. Wow. We were busy th struggling to finish but it was very tasty. Our server, Steve, was an amusing youngster willing to joke around and have fun with the patrons. He paced the service very well as we never felt rushed at all. I highly recommend coming to the First Post and can't wait till my next visit, as this will be a new go-to!

We have been to First Post many times and have enjoyed all our meals there. The food is fresh, well prepared and generally delish. This past visit was the Sesame Street game of one of these things is not like the other. Really, first time that something just wasn't top notch. The good: our adult kids came to visit and First Post is generally First Choice! We began with the outstanding crab dip. The daughter who'd not yet been to this place ( she should visit more often, right??) said it was the best crab dip she's had, and that's quite a compliment from this woman who travels a bunch. We added the Brussels sprouts as an additional appetizer and that was terrific. Served with cheesy grits, chopped apples and bacon, this is a keeper. The mains: The chicken orichetti is wonderful. Little pasta ears, fresh chunks of melting mozzarella, some spinach and sautéed chicken chunks in a creamy tomato sauce- unbelievably good. I don't know how they do the chicken but it is tender, delicious and juicy. I love this! The caesar salad was superb and the meatloaf dinner was excellent with its beef gravy and barbecue glaze. Super mashed potatoes and broccoli raab. Terrific! The bad: it's the first time one of us ordered ciopino. It was a generous portion with lots of fish, some shrimp and mussels. But the broth was very disappointing. We couldn't taste the fennel, or any of the seasonings. If I'd ordered it I'd probably have sent it back and ordered something else, but, my family members are somewhat nicer than I. It really needed seasonings, so say the four of us. More good: service was excellent as usual. The drinks: Pumpkin drink was well received. Nutty something contained screwball, FrAngelica, and I don't know what else - was exactly as described- very sweet but very strong! The liqueur was overpowering as far as taste goes. Didn't taste anything else. The seasonal ciders were good. So, despite one disappointing meal, we had a lovely dining experience I surely hope the kitchen fixes the ciopino. It's a favorite of mine but I'm glad I hadn't ordered it. Don 't know if we should try it again I wonder if anyone has had it with a different experience. Since I can't go with 4.5*, I have to say it's still a 5. We will be back.

What a great restaurant! I had a peach sour to start - if you like bourbon and sweet, this is the drink for you. My parents and I got the crab dip to start. Only after we ordered the dip did they tell me how big the portions were. They were not wrong. The crab dip was immense, so delicious, and totally worth getting. It came with a side of seasoned tortilla chips, and for once there were enough chips for all of the dip. You know how that never happens! For our entrées, my mom got the chicken orecchiette, my dad got the meatloaf, and I ordered the shrimp salad. Did I mention the portions? Each plate came out looking like it was going to feed three people. But on top of being ginormous, the food was also really good. I'm kind of sad they've never taken me to The First Post before. My shrimp salad was delicious, with the freshest corn I think I've ever had. It was loaded, not just with corn but with tomatoes, bacon and avocados. Really excellent. My dad's meatloaf was gigantic and so so good. Plus, his mashed potatoes were to die for. It felt like there was a pound of butter in them. My pasta was so great. She said she gets it every time she goes there and now I know why. The mix of the pasta, the cream sauce and all the other bits was truly very good. It also came with a Caesar salad that was basically entrée sized and had a fantastic dressing. Last, but not least, I should mention that our server was really excellent. He was there when we needed him, he explained things well, but he wasn't overly intrusive. That was really nice., Just a fantastic experience and I look forward to going back the next time I'm in York.

First let's start with the most import thing parking. This place has plenty of it!! Don't let the little parking lot around the building fool u there is a small bridge that cross over to more parking! When you walk in you get like a pub feeling. The hostess great you and seat you. Our waitress had some recommendation so I went with one of them. The pork chop for the main course. We had the scotch eggs for an appetizer. Has to be the best scotch eggs I've had ever. I wish I ordered some for myself. The pork chop was big and juicy. The sides that came with it I wasn't as impressed. I thought the Brussels sprouts were a little too burnt for my taste. The grits need a tad more flavor. Overall the place was nice but I would try a different main next time.

Have been here numerous times, and is always a very pleasant experience. Food is phenomenal every time, and always great service. We went this past Sunday for brunch, around 1pm. We both got the Chesapeake Benedict, which was delicious, BUT I was not a huge fan of the 63 degree eggs. A weird texture, but I tend to be a bit pickey. My fiancé on the other hand loved the eggs. The breakfast alcoholic drink prices seem to have gone up a bit, at least by a dollar. It is about $7 for a single mimosa. Cream of crab soup is always delicious. Presentations are always thought out. One of the downsides was that it was very hot in the restaurant, maybe their AC was broken? It was very hot outside so definitely not the best day to have an out of order AC.

Been a bit since we've had dinner here. Busy Sunday, 6:30p arrival. Sat in Chris' section, straight back past the bar. We know him from another favorite. Chris always delivers stellar service. Great food. Octopus is awesome. Crab soup really good. Lamb bolognese special dish rocked. My usual fav Chicken Orecchietti was good, more red sauce this time. Market Salads are real salads, plenty ingredients. LJ had the honey mustard dressing, really liked it. We opted for a bottle of Lyric Pinot Noir, Sonoma, really good. Portions are big, we brought food home, and dessert. Go here!
